Swan Secure has the right fastener for your choice of decking

Swan Secure offers a full range of options to meet your deck fastening needs. Whether you're building with redwood, ACQ, exotic hardwoods such as Ipe, or any of today's popular composite materials, you can count on Swan Secure fasteners to provide the ultimate in strength, durability and corrosion resistance.

  Ipe/Hardwoods

Hardwoods are highly regarded by discerning homeowners and professional builders for their visual appeal and outstanding durability. These premium decking products include Ipe (Brazilian Walnut, also known as Pau Lope or Ironwood), Cumuru, Jatoba, Mahogany, Teak and Cambara among many others.

Available in either trim or flat head, our Woodpecker hand-drive screws penetrate tropical hardwoods with ease thanks to a special thread form designed to reduce driving torque. They're also available with Ipe-colored painted heads.

The EB-TY Hidden Deck-Fastening System was originally designed with Ipe decking in mind. With EB-TY fasteners, decks have no visible screw or nail holes--ensuring a cleaner, more finished look. Select from five types of EB-TY fasteners, based on board thickness and spacing.

Our popular trim and bugle-head Swaneze hand-drive screws that "escape notice" thanks to powder-coated heads colored to match your decking. Made in 305 or 316 stainless steel, with special "Beaver Bite" point for extra fast starts.

  Cedar/Redwood

Cedar and Redwood are popular choices for decking, and for good reason. These softwoods offer a rich natural beauty, long-lasting performance and natural resistance to decay and insect damage. Stainless steel is clearly your best option when it comes to withstanding the corrosive effects of naturally occurring levels of tannic acid in both cedar and redwood.

Our hand-drive, stainless steel cedar & redwood deck nails feature slender shanks that allow nailing at board-ends without splitting. They're also available pre-finished in tan and redwood colors.

Swaneze hand-drive screws with painted bugle heads are a good choice if you're trying to minimize the appearance of fasteners in your deck boards (see Scrudini above). To hide fasteners altogether from the top surface of your cedar or redwood deck, try the Eb-Ty Original for level 5/4" boards automatically spaced at 3/32".

  Composites

Today's composite decking, made largely of recycled plastics and wood fiber, has its distinct advantages. Key among them are relative ease of installation, dimensional stability and minimal maintenance. There are drawbacks however. Not only do composites lack the strength and workability of wood, the board material itself tends to be difficult to top-screw with a clean, finished look.

Enter Dexxter, the ultimate composite fastener. This innovative hand-drive screw arrives with a unique thread form that actually removes exhaust while driving to ensure mushroom-free installation. "Loves composite decking. Eats mushrooms." What's more, Dexxter's slender head design works with all composites regardless of board density. Available in a range of material-matching head colors.

  Pressure Treated/ACQ

EPA regulations in place since 2004 call for the arsenic-free treatments ACQ (Alkaline Copper Quaternary) or CA (copper azole) to replace CCA (copper chromated arsenic) as a preservative in pressure treated lumber intended for residential use. The higher copper content in both ACQ and CA-treated decking (usually yellow pine) is highly corrosive, so stainless steel fasteners are a must for pressure treated decking.

We offer 304 and 316 stainless steel hand-drive nails specifically designed for this type of decking. They easily penetrate both green and seasoned pressure treated pine, with large-diameter ring shanks that provide maximum pull-out resistance.

Our 15° wire coil and 20-22° plastic strip collated nails are also great choices for pressure treated decks, as are our square drive and 6-lobe drive Swaneze bugle head screws in 316 stainless steel.
